There’s a reason that Austin has been the music haven for a lot of people. This slogan became official almost 2 decades ago– in 1991– as it was discovered that Austin had the most live music venue per capita in the US. In fact, most people who have been in the city claim that there’s no dull moment in this city, as they constantly hear bands performing no matter what time of day it is. From country to indie rock, jazz, blues, name it, you’d probably be able to come across your favorite genre while you’re in Austin.
That said, here are some of the few reasons behind that:
Reason 1: Lots of Music Venues
If we’ll try to be statistically accurate, it can be quite difficult to get the exact number of music venues in Austin. In fact, it’s even famous for its motto that it has the most live music performances than anywhere else. The more than 100 gigs every night is more than enough to justify that claim. Be it classical, indie, country, jazz, rock, hardcore, and more. There’s a tune that’s perfect for everybody’s taste.
Reason 2: A Rich History of Music
Austin’s stages have been the home of probably the best and most iconic musicians all over the world. Some of them includes Glenn Miller, Bruce Springsteen, Ray Charles, Elvis, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Willie Nelson, Janis Joplin, and many more. That’s why it’s no wonder why in some music lounges around Austin, chances are, you’re going to find some photos of your favorite musicians with their autographs.
Reason 3: Music Everywhere
We’re talking about places where you never thought would be a place for music– barber shops, bakeries, sign builders, electronic stores, fast food restaus, ice cream parlors, coffee shops, and of course, even at the airport. Basically, what we’re trying to say is that, wherever you go, there’s a huge possibility you’re going to catch some tune and this is pretty usual. In fact, by just being around Austin, you can even feel like you’re part of a live musical!
Reason 4: It Is Where the 6th Street Is
As we talk about Austin, Texas, it would be a sin if you forgot to mention “SXSW.” Although some Austinites would rather split town than the party atmosphere that takes over the city, everyone would agree that it boosts the city’s profile. It’s the perfect place for music, new ideas, films, and many more. It’s the “go to events” and situated in one of the most amazing cities in the nation.
Reason 5: A Lot of Music Festivals
One of the biggest music festivals in Austin would be the South by Southwest which is usually held around March in more than 45 venues. This is considered to be the festivals for musicians as there are more than 2,000 performers taking part in this. Another great one is Austin City Limits music festival in October. No matter when you come though, there are always great concerts going on in Austin, which you can see here: http://zeronosebleeds.com/austin-concerts
It’s no wonder why Austin, Texas has been labeled as the music capital of the world. Not only does it have a lot of music venues as compared to other countries, it’s also the go-to place of those who are musically inclined or have a great appreciation for music.
