Reasons to be Excited About the Dallas Cowboys in 2017

Last season, the Dallas Cowboys were off to an amazing start – and they were even starting rookies Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott! People were saying prayers and crossing fingers that it could be the year the ‘boys returned to the Super Bowl. Unfortunately, the season ended in a heartbreaker. A spectacular season came down to one bad play at the end of a game. The good news is the Cowboys are poised to stay near the top of the NFC East for years to come with the dominating team they’ve assembled.

We’re excited to see the Dallas Cowboys play this upcoming season, and here’s why you should be excited, too.

Dak Prescott

One of the happiest moments for any NFL team is learning they have found their franchise quarterback. Many of us thought Dallas would continue playing Tony Romo until retirement. Prescott wouldn’t have gotten his chance to shine if it wasn’t for Romo’s injury. As horrible as his it may sound, it was a true blessing in disguise. We believe he has the potential to become one of the franchise’s top performing quarterbacks.

Ezekiel Elliott

Ezekiel Elliott was a true superstar throughout his rookie season! The expectations were high, and he surpassed them greatly. He played with so much energy, and we never knew if he was ever tired. He proved to be a true three-down back with no signs of weakness. In just 15 games, Elliott had for 1,994 yards and 16 touchdowns. If you include the playoffs, that number jumps up to 2,117 yards!

The rest of the teams in the league should be a little nervous because he can only improve in his second season. Even Elliott believes he can become a much better “second-level runner.” He’s been resting his body this offseason, and we’re excited to see what he has up his sleeve for the 2017 season. Elliott was the best complement to Prescott that the Cowboys could’ve asked for.

Dez Bryant’s Return

Last season, Dez Bryant had a slow start and fractured his knee in just the third week. He had to sit out for three games and didn’t play the same after that. Fortunately, he got his groove back when playoffs started to roll around, and he was practically unguardable.

Bryant is a lock for double-digit touchdowns and should easily exceed his 2016 yardage total. If he was able to make a comeback in the middle of the season, we can’t wait to see how he will come back after the offseason.

Taco Charlton

Charlton was the Cowboy’s first-round pick this draft, and we are eager to see how he performs! Charlton will have a lot to live up to, following Prescott and Elliott. We don’t expect him to carry the team or move the ball as much, but he will surely be generating some buzz. Every first-round pick since 2010 has started the first week, so we won’t have to wait long before seeing him in action.

Offensive Line

Last season, the Cowboys were praised for their offensive line, and we only expect it to get even better. Tyron Smith and Travis Frederick are officially locked in through the 2023 season. We are expecting Zack Martin to join the lineup soon. Prescott and Elliott already proved they can play at an elite level, so this lineup is set up to be one of the NFL’s top offensive units for quite some time.

We wouldn’t be surprised if other teams began to play their rookies in hopes to match the Cowboys’ magic! Other teams would happily invest three first-round picks in four years in the offensive line if they knew they’d get similar results. Unfortunately, it’s not that easy. The Cowboys already have three All-Pro linemen, and once the 2017 season begins, they’ll only be 26 years old.

Jaylon Smith

Jaylon Smith was the Cowboys’ second-round pick in last year’s draft, but he’s been making great progress recovering from his knee injury. No one expected him to play his rookie year, but everyone is expecting him to play this season. Could he play even greater we saw him as the dominant player with Notre Dame? Even Jerry Jones said he’s going to be a “dramatic” piece to the puzzle from here on out. Many experts think that he could’ve easily been a top-five draft pick if he was in good health at the time. This middle linebacker can be a significant addition to a defense in need of playmakers.
