San Antonio Spurs Kicking Off the 2017-18 Season

San Antonio Spurs Kicking Off the 2017-18 SeasonIn the Southern states, we have a reputation about getting pumped for football season – unless you’re from San Antonio. San Antonio is the home to one professional sports team – the NBA’s San Antonio Spurs. Once basketball season starts, the city goes into full on party mode. Well, folks, it’s about that time.

The NBA regular season will open with none other than the San Antonio Spurs! The Spurs will open up the season at home on October 18 at 8:30 pm against the Minnesota Timberwolves. It won’t take very long for Timberwolves head coach Tom Thibodeau to see how his new roster will hold up against one of the best teams in the league, the San Antonio Spurs.

The Timberwolves used to be no big deal, but this year, they are expected to contend for a top four playoff spot in the Western Conference. On the other hand, the Spurs are returning after a back-to-back 60-win regular season. This should call for a pretty exciting game that you won’t want to miss.

Minnesota Timberwolves

The Timberwolves are an up-and-coming team with a promising young core of talent, which includes Karl-Anthony Towns and Andrew Wiggins. This summer, they also added All-Star Jimmy Butler from the Chicago Bulls and veteran guard Jeff Teague from the Indiana Pacers to the lineup. Timberwolves fans will also see a key figure from the team’s recent past, Ricky Rubio.

San Antonio Spurs

The Spurs have won over 50 games in 20 back-to-back seasons and hold the best winning percentage in NBA history for the past 20 years. Even though Manu Ginobili is returning before retirement, Tony Parker is still out with an injury. This leaves all the pressure on Kawhi Leonard (as usual).

The Spurs will have some new faces on their roster this year: Rudy Gay, Joffrey Lauvergne, and Brandon Paul. Each of these players signed with the Spurs during the offseason for one to three-year deals. Derrick White may even make his Spurs debut, unless he gets sent to the Austin Spurs, San Antonio’s G-League team.

The Spurs recently released their schedule for the upcoming season, which consists of 41 home games and 41 away games over 26 weeks. The annual “Rodeo Road Trip” will start on February 7, but it is only six games long this year! Plus, the Spurs will not play in the NBA Christmas Day showcase – which they have been a part of since 2012, but the Timberwolves were invited to return again. On the plus side, our favorite players will be able to kick back, relax, and spend some quality time with their families during the holiday. Check out the full Spurs schedule below:
